His singing is like breathing, and he plays the piano as he sings; a kind of five o’clock tea with a shot of whiskey. London pianist and singer Anthony Strong fulfills the role of the classic English gentleman with ease – thanks to his tailored suit and dandyish charm.

The studied classical and jazz pianist started out as a sideman of Michael Bolton or Jocelyn Brown, played Jerry Lee Lewis in the West End musical Million Dollar Quartet, appeared in various European TV shows or accompanied Adrien Brody on the piano at the Superbowl.

But Strong proved that he is an artist in his own right, a singer with precise phrasing, a musician with a great sense of rhythm and dynamics, and an excellent songwriter, at the latest with his album “Stepping Out,” which reached No. 1 on the US iTunes jazz charts.

The current sixth album “Easy Sailing” gives the deepest insight into Anthony’s musical world so far. Fifteen carefully crafted songs take listeners on his journey. Featuring songs by jazz legends Nat King Cole and Hoagy Carmichael, the great Leonard Bernstein and the Beatles. Hard swinging classics like “Straighten Up & Fly Right” and “Do It The Hard Way” rub shoulders with gorgeous ballads (“Skylark,” “When You Wish Upon A Star”) and blues-soaked originals like “Minute By Minute” and “Any Old Place.”

Things may not have been easy lately, but Anthony proves once again that a fresh take on “Feel Good” classics can give music fans around the world a well-deserved break.
