Greek pianist and composer Tania Giannouli is considered one of the most exciting voices on the European jazz and crossover scene. Her music effortlessly transcends stylistic boundaries—inspired by classical music, world music, avant-garde, and improvisation, she creates a sonically intense, often cinematic overall picture. With great expressiveness and lyrical depth, she develops her own sound language on the piano, which has won her critical acclaim worldwide. In addition to her celebrated solo program, she is active in international formations, including with Jean-Paul Estiévenart, Kyriakos Tapakis, Nik Bärtsch, and Nils Petter Molvær. Her albums are released on the renowned New Zealand label Rattle Records and have won numerous awards. Concert tours regularly take her to the most important stages in Europe, from the Berlin Philharmonic to the London Jazz Festival.
“…Her playful and highly dynamic inside-outside manoeuvres unlocked primal forces and a vivid range of flickering mood shadings… a remarkable border-crosser between classical and improvisation…” (All About Jazz)
Tania Giannouli & Nik Baertsch
From the very first note, you feel overwhelmed and captivated: Tania Giannouli’s lyrical, sparkling lines meet Nik Bärtsch’s precisely placed, rhythmically penetrating sound architecture – an encounter full of depth and tension. Both pianists combine classically trained sound culture with an improvisational openness that gives rise to a fragile yet powerful sound language. This is music that not only touches the listener, but also weaves a delicate web of empathy, concentration, and magic with every note.
